Experience the Splendor of Corfu: Achilleion Palace & Kanoni Half-Day Tour

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the enchanting Corfu Island with our exclusive mini-bus tour. Whether you’re traveling with your partner, friends, or a group, allow us to customize a tour tailored to your preferences and interests.

As you disembark from your cruise ship, our spacious mini bus will be waiting just outside the port’s main entrance, ready to whisk you away on an adventure. Our half-day tour offers a unique and immersive experience, starting with a visit to the breathtaking Achilleion Palace.

Achilleion Palace

Perched on a hill in the traditional village of Gastouri, the Achilleion Palace exudes an undeniable sense of grandeur. Surrounded by lush cypress trees, exotic plants, and vibrant flowers, this palace was initially built for Empress Elisabeth as a sanctuary from the tragedies of her life. Later, it was acquired by William II following her untimely demise.

Upon entering the palace, you’ll be captivated by the exquisite gardens that envelop the residence. Marvel at the priceless works of art, including ancient Greek statues of Zeus and Hera and smaller sculptures and statues. Every inch of the palace, from the roof to the walls and even the Catholic chapel of Elisabeth, exudes artistic brilliance. The outer area of the palace is adorned with columns, particularly the remarkable “Peristyle of the Muses.” However, the crown jewel of Achilleion is undoubtedly the “Dying Achilles” statue—an awe-inspiring depiction of Achilles struggling to remove a spear from his ankle. It’s the largest statue of Achilles, boasting astonishing dimensions, and represents a moment of triumphant victory.

Kanoni

Next, we’ll proceed to Kanoni, following a scenic seaside road that meanders through traditional villages along Corfu’s picturesque west coast. In Kanoni, you’ll be treated to a postcard-perfect view of Mouse Island (known as “Pontikonisi” in Greek). According to legend, Mouse Island formed when the ship that carried Odysseus back to his homeland, Ithaca, was petrified by Poseidon in his anger at being defied by the Phaeacians. Nestled beneath Kanoni Hill lies the Convent of Vlachernas, where you can even take a boat to Mouse Island itself.

Mon Repo

Continuing our tour from Kanoni, we’ll head to Mon Repo Park—a magnificent forest park that houses the former summer residence of the former King of Greece, Konstantinos. This villa has now been transformed into a museum accessible to all visitors. As you delve deeper into the park’s lush greenery, you’ll discover a small Doric temple, possibly dedicated to Poseidon, dating back to approximately 500 BC. Follow the path through Mon Repo, leading you to Kardaki Spring, nestled by the sea. This spring, flowing from the mouth of a lion, is said to be inexhaustible. Legend has it that anyone who drinks from it is destined to return to Corfu.

Old Fortress – Corfu Old Town

Our next stop takes us to the Old Fortress, an iconic landmark in the heart of Old Corfu Town. Originally built by the Venetians in the 15th century and later modified by the British, the Byzantine castle exudes historical magnificence. Ascend to the top of the fort and be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the charming city of Old Corfu Town.

From the Old Fortress, we’ll continue our exploration on foot, strolling through the Venetian-style narrow streets of Old Corfu Town. Admire the plethora of churches that adorn every corner and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the renowned Liston area. Immerse yourself in a world of shopping, indulge in traditional local foods at one of the many delightful restaurants, or savor a cup of coffee at a charming café along Liston. Liston, crafted in the same style as the famous Rue de Rivoli in Paris, was built by the French and adds an elegant touch to the town’s character.

Saint Spyridon Church

Our final stop is the magnificent Saint Spyridon Church in the heart of Old Corfu Town. Built in 1596 to house sacred relics, this church holds tremendous significance for the local community. Saint Spyridon, also known as the Miracle Worker, is believed to have safeguarded the island’s inhabitants through numerous trials, warding off both cholera and Turkish invasions. It stands as the main church of Corfu and is a monumental testament to the island’s rich history.

With the blessings of Saint Spyridon, our minibus tour concludes, and we’ll transport you back to the starting point just outside the main entrance of the port, a mere few meters from your cruise ship. As you rejoin your vessel, you’ll carry with you cherished memories and a collection of stunning photographs capturing the scenic beauty and cultural treasures discovered during your Corfu Island adventure.
